ACADEMIC ACCESS
Open to students with documented learning disabilities, Academic Access is a fee-based program that provides individualized coaching, structure, and support to ensure the collegiate experience is positive and productive.

CENTER FOR ACADEMIC SUPPORT AND TUTORING
CAST offers individual and group tutoring in the disciplines, as well as workshops ranging from creative writing and publishing to conversational foreign language and administers placement exams for incoming students who are eligible. The office is located in Nugent Hall 451.
CAMPUS MINISTRY
Campus Ministry at Marymount Manhattan College provides opportunities and resources for spiritual growth to all members of our community. Regardless of your faith background, Campus Ministry seeks to meet you where you are and to assist you in your spiritual development. At Campus Ministry, we educate the soul as well as the mind. The Campus Ministry is located in Carson Hall 412
CAREER SERVICES
Counselors assist students and alumni in initial and ongoing professional development through services like resume help, interview prep, internship placement, and job search strategies. The office is located in Carson Hall 106.
CENTER FOR STUDENT SERVICES
The Center for Student Services (CSS) houses the offices of Financial Aid, Registration and Records, and Student Accounts. This Center is designed to provide one-stop shopping for most of your service needs. A variety of transactions are handled in the Center, the most regular of these are: processing payments, adding money to your meal plan, awarding financial aid, discussing financial issues, processing transcript requests, enrollment verification, and filing graduation applications. CSS is located in the lower level of the Nugent Building.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Office of Community Service or MMC Serves works to meet the needs and interests of the MMC community to engage in volunteer and service projects. MMC serves coordinates a wide range of volunteer and community-based learning activities and initiatives, working with students, student organizations, faculty and staff.
COUNSELING & WELLNESS CENTER (CWC)
Whatever the concern, CWC counselors are here to help. Counseling services help students deal with a range of difficulties, including stress, homesickness, anxiety, depression, identity, eating and body image, families, relationships, study anxieties, sex, and alcohol or drugs. CWC is located in Carson Hall 806.
DISABILITY SERVICES (ods)
MMC accommodates students with learning, physical, and/or psychological disabilities. Register with the Office of Disability Services to ensure you receive full support. ODS is located in Carson Hall, 500.
The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI)
ODEI provides leadership and guidance to the MMC community in developing a diverse environment reflective of our global society, implementing equitable practices and fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all. They also investigate any bias related campus incidents. The office is located in Carson Hall 307.
THE DOW ZANGHI STUDENT HEALTH CENTER
The Dow Zanghi Student Health Center is committed to providing quality health care to all students. The student health center provides free primary care, including treatment for colds, flu and minor injuries, physicals, STI/HIV testing and women’s health care services. The Center is located at 231 East 55th Street at the 55th Street Residence Hall.
Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid works closely with families to assist them in identifying resources that help make a student’s education at MMC affordable. Through our merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid programs, we are able to assist students with their cost of attendance. Financial Aid is located in the Center for Student Services in the lower level of the Nugent Building.
LIBRARY
The Library has a wide variety of journals, periodicals, and online databases, plus computer labs and study carrels. The Library also houses the Media Center and Archives. The library is located on the second and third floors of the Nugent Building.
RESIDENCE LIFE
The Residence Life program at Marymount Manhattan College is committed to the overall growth, development and education of its residents. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, secure, and comfortable educational environment while providing residents the opportunities to become involved, exercise their leadership skills, and be part of a residential community. Residence Life is located on the 8th floor of Carson Hall.

The Division of Student Affairs at Marymount Manhattan College is dedicated to enhancing your college experience. Our co-curricular opportunities and services will complement your academic life, and enhance your intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social development. Student Affairs is located on the 8th floor of Carson Hall.
STUDENT DEVELOPMENT & ACTIVITIES
SDA is comprised of five general areas: New Student Orientation, Office Programs, Leadership Development, Clubs and Organizations, and Campus Diversity Initiatives. SDA is the center for student events and leadership development for the College. Students can make the most of their college experience by partaking in one or more of the areas the SDA office has to offer. Genuine involvement outside the classroom aids in creating a more holistic experience for students and fosters the development of skills students can use throughout their careers. SDA is located on the 8th floor of Carson Hall.
STUDY ABROAD
Make the world your classroom! MMC students may spend a semester, a full academic year, or a summer or January session studying abroad. The College offers a number of opportunities and formats to earn academic credits in programs throughout the world. Study Abroad is located on the 8th floor of Carson Hall.
RESOURCES
Academic Standards and Policies
Every student, regardless of date of admission to the College, is subject to compliance with new policies and procedures. Changes in policies and procedures are posted on the College web site and are updated each year in the Academic Catalogue.
COLLEGE HONORS PROGRAM (CHP)
The CHP curriculum includes more advanced General Education courses, as well as smaller classes and more academically and creatively demanding coursework.
Course Reserves
are library materials made available to students by instructors. Reserve materials are used within the library and for two hours only. The course reserves are located at the circulation desk on the 2nd floor of the library in Nugent Hall.
Federal Work Study Jobs
The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a form of self-help financial assistance. The program funds a limited number of part-time employment opportunities for both on and off campus jobs. All Federal Work Study jobs are posted in Career Connection, the College’s internal job posting site.
First Generation Mentor Program
is designed to provide mentorship and social support to First Generation College Students. The program allows students to build strong relationships with faculty and staff across campus, who serve as mentors to students. Participation in the program increases awareness of campus resources and provides support to students outside of the classroom.
Gilman Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad for students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant. The program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad, and the countries and regions where they go by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints.
Griffin Guide Student Handbook
This handbook is designed to help you find information about MMC quickly. The Griffin Guide provides access to information about services and resources for students as well as policies and procedures. It is expected that all students read and know the contents of this handbook.
Griffy’s Grocery
is a Student Food Pantry which offers free groceries and limited personal-care items to all Marymount Manhattan College students in need. Griffy’s Grocery is located in the Multi-Faith Center in Carson Hall 412 and is open on Tuesdays from 10-11am and Fridays from 2-3pm.
Jeanette K. Watson Fellowship
is a three year program which provides summer internships, mentoring, and enriched educational opportunities to promising students from twelve New York City partner institutions with the goal of enhancing their life choices and developing their capacity to make a difference in their own and others’ lives.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Many of our students receive merit- or need-based scholarships. We offer endowed funds, service awards, scholarships for transfers, and grants for future entrepreneurs, among many others. Look into external opportunities as well! You have options.

Black and White
An extension of the Hewitt Gallery of Art which is easily identified by its black and white floors. This area offers the Marymount Manhattan community exposure to the art world and is often used for event tabling. This area along with the lower level and the terrace provide a passageway between the Nugent Building and Carson Hall.
Commencement
celebrates the culmination of a Marymount Manhattan College student’s academic journey. Commencement exercises are held in late May and include speeches given by honorary degree recipients, class valedictorian, a student speaker and the conferring of degrees.
C-Store
This dining option offers a variety of snacks, beverages, produce, grocery items and even household supplies. The C-Store is located on the 2nd floor of the 55th Street Residence Hall.
COMMONS
This dining option offers a wide variety of specialties ranging from breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and beverages. The Commons is located on the 4th Floor of Carson Hall.
DEAN’S LIST
Every semester, the Dean commends students who attained a 3.5 GPA or higher during the previous term.
Faculty Advisor
Each MMC student is assigned a Faculty Advisor from their major/field of study. The student advisor relationship is a mutual process in which the student and the faculty advisor assume responsibilities for degree completion and successful academic experience at MMC.
Hewitt Gallery of Art
The Hewitt Gallery of Art is a laboratory for and an extension of the pedagogy of the Art Department program. The Gallery provides opportunities for art majors to gain first-hand experience in exhibiting their Senior Thesis projects, as well as having solo exhibitions in their spring semester. Juniors also exhibit in an annual group exhibition and students are able to curate and organize shows in conjunction with their mentors and the Gallery Director.
Regina Peruggi Room (RPR)
The Regina Peruggi Room aka RPR is a multipurpose space located on the 2nd floor of Carson Hall. It can be accessed by the stairs at the end of the Black and White, an entry way right by the Office of Institutional Advancement or the double elevators in Carson Hall. The space hosts various events, talks, meetings and workshops throughout the year. The room is named after MMC’s 5th President, Regina Peruggi.
COMMONLY USED COLLEGE TERMS
ACADEMIC ADVISOR
Academic Advisors located in the Office of Academic Advisement assist students with course selection, graduation requirements and developing an academic plan. Drop in the office to meet with an advisor to discuss any academic related concerns.
ACADEMIC PROBATION
All matriculated students at MMC must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 in order to remain in good academic standing. If you fall below a 2.0 cumulative GPA, you will be placed on academic probation.
Adjunct Professor
Adjunct Professor are part time instructors who teach courses but usually do not have other administrative responsibilities in the college.
CREDIT HOUR
Credit hours indicate the amount of time or the workload that the course demands. Majority of courses offered at MMC are 3 credits.
ELECTIVE
Courses that students are allowed to take based on their own interests rather that degree requirement.
FAFSA
Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Must be filed annually to determine eligibility for financial aid. The application process opens every year on October 1.
FEES
Fees are charges asses to your bill in addition to tuition.
FERPA
Family Educational Rights Privacy Act. Federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records.
FULL-TIME Student
Students who are enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.
GRANTS
Funds awarded to qualified students that do not have to be repaid.
INTERNSHIP
Temporary position that provides hands on learning experiences outside the classroom and in your particular field of interest.
Loans
A loan is money you borrow and must pay back with interest.
MAJOR/MINOR
A major is a student’s primary area of study that requires successful completion of specific course requirements and credit hours. Similar to a major, a minor requires the successful completion of specific course requirements but does not require as many credit hours.
MATRICULATE
To be enrolled in college.
OFFICE HOURS
Designated time offered by instructors where students can visit to get assistance with course material.
PART-TIME STUDENT
Students who are enrolled for less than 12 credit hours.
REGISTRAR
Office that maintains student educational records.
SYLLABUS
Outlines important information related to each course including important dates, assignments, grading standards, expectations and policies.

Official academic student record showing courses taken and grades received.
WORK STUDY
The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) provides part-time jobs for students with financial need. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to demonstrate financial need.
