Study Abroad
While New York City can spoil you with its international cachet, there are other great world cities to immerse yourself in. MMC offers a number of study abroad programs that transport you beyond the five boroughs of NYC. Does Paris entice you? What about London? Perhaps Greece or Italy? Choose your location and open yourself to cultural discovery and global perspectives.
My experience at Marymount Manhattan College challenged me not only to study the basic sciences in a typical linear sequence, but rather to integrate coursework in sociology, language, and philosophy into the Biology major courses. Furthermore, I felt challenged by my mentors to continually revisit foundational concepts in advanced classes, so as to reinforce key concepts that are important for developing a strong foundation in the biological sciences.

The two main focuses within my IDS major were Costume Design and Film. But in order to get the most out of both of these areas, I took courses that weren’t necessarily these exact topics but deepened my understanding of the larger ones. Courses like Costume History and Costume Construction provided me with vital lessons on how clothing was made. During my study abroad experience in Italy, I took a photography class that helped improve my visual skills that could be carried over into film. The ability to, in a sense, hone my craft by choosing a diverse, yet integral, list of courses makes the IDS program so unique and rewarding.

I came to Marymount Manhattan College in pursuit of becoming a dancer. I was interested in how I could use the body to express my thoughts and emotions and communicate ideas. I ended up with Studio Art as my major—falling in love with the body in relation to art history, visual arts, and painting. My studies abroad in Italy and at MMC helped to solidify my choice to be an artist in New York City.
