About

“A college is many things-a vehicle for enriching life through study of new ideas; a laboratory in which to experiment and find one’s place among the world’s people; a career exploration center to arrange a productive and satisfying future. Yet, like a kaleidoscope shifting its shapes and colors, a college is a continually changing entity.”

Regina Peruggi
“President’s Report,” Publication, Marymount Manhattan College, ca. 1997-1998.

In 1990, Regina Peruggi became the first lay president of Marymount Manhattan College. She helped strengthen the financial position of the College during her term, which ended in 2001. During her eleven year presidency, Peruggi doubled enrollment to the College. Steering MMC through difficult financial times, Peruggi attracted new support to the College and, through generous donations, was able to establish the Samuel Freeman Center for Science Education and The Theresa Lang Center for Producing. Through further gifts, Peruggi was able to improve the technology at the institution, equipping classrooms with computers and bringing new educational software to the College. Further, Peruggi improved the strength of the College’s Board of Trustees and led the College forward in an important period of transition.

In 2003, in Peruggi’s honor, the College’s Mezzanine was renamed the Regina Peruggi Room.

Peruggi later served as president of the Central Park Conservancy from 2002 to 2004, and then of Kingsborough Community College, retiring after a nine year tenure. Previous to her tenure at MMC, Peruggi served as Associate Dean for the system of schools under the City University of New York. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the College of New Rochelle, a Master of Business Administration from New York University, and a Doctor of Education from Teachers College at Columbia University.
