Water Sampling

About

Today our Urban Ecosystem freshman seminar sampled and tested water from three different water bodies in Central Park: Conservatory Water (i.e., the mini-sailboat pond), The Lake, and Turtle Pond. The Lake is under a harmful algal bloom advisory, while Turtle Pond has a somewhat less serious algal bloom caution. Conservatory Water, which is essentially in a large concrete basin, serves as a control for investigating the water quality factors linked with eutrophication and algal blooms in the other two ponds. Students are collecting data once a month this semester in preparation for their final Water Quality Projects on the last day of class.
