MMC Students Tour Rolling Stone Headquarters

Students in Digital Journal of Ideas and Culture with Tatiana Serafin, MFA, Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Arts, toured Rolling Stone magazine’s New York City headquarters on 5th Avenue and spoke with Gus Wenner, President and Chief Operating Officer of Wenner Media, who oversees the publishing of Rolling Stone.

Wenner, whose father, Jann Wenner, began Rolling Stone magazine in 1967, spoke to MMC students in an hour-long conversation on brand growth, emerging media, the magazine’s well-publicized relaunch, and their commitment to print while growing their digital platform. Wenner took student questions and gave advice on the launch of MMC’s new nonfiction digital journal, Two Two One, telling them to “be passionate” about what they do and suggested developing a clear mission statement.

Students during their newsroom tour Afterwards, students toured the company newsroom and spoke with RollingStone Digital Director, Jerry Portwood. Their host of the day, Associate Marketing and Special Projects Manager Bridget Schelzi, made sure students left with copies of RollingStone magazine, which included the latest groundbreaking cover of rap icons Sza, Megan Thee Stallion, and Normani.

Thank you so much to everyone at Rolling Stone for making this visit possible!
