Facilities
In addition to being located in the heart of NYC—the communication capital of the world—MMC is also home to state-of-the-art facilities open for daily use for our Communication and Media Arts students.
Theresa Lang Center for Producing
The Communication Arts Department houses the Theresa Lang Center for Producing, which features state-of-the-art digital audio, video, and multimedia suites.
The design of the Center was inspired by New York’s top production and digital multimedia facilities. The Center offers students and faculty the opportunity to work on moving and still images, audio, graphics and print, and on Internet surroundings conducive to creative endeavors. Students are encouraged to produce their own portfolio of work in digital media.
Digital Television and Sound Control Room Studio
MMC proudly opened a new Digital Television and Sound Studio—a fully integrated recording facility for professional TV and sound production—in 2016.
The Digital Television setup includes a cutting edge control room that communicates with video cameras, microphones and teleprompters in the Video and Performance Studio, where talent performs for three live cameras. Students will gain hands-on experience in multi-camera live broadcasting and learn professional production roles, such as control room engineer, camera operator, sound technician, director and producer. The control room boasts a state-of-the-art video switcher, allowing student directors to select, combine and record multiple sources live, including feeds from studio cameras, student videos, live voiceovers, digital assets, music and Skype interviews. Students will generate live graphics, incorporate dynamic backgrounds with green screen technology, mix expert sound and color correct studio cameras remotely. Student crews will create professional quality programming for their creative portfolios, expressing their unique visions while simultaneously gaining real world production experience.
Integrated into the control room is a professional sound recording studio with both analog and digital mixers, Protools software, whisper booth, keyboard and microphones. In addition to recording sound, music and voiceover from the whisper booth, student can record multiple mic inputs from the Video & Performance studio, allowing for large live recording setups. Live sound recording may be mixed into live TV programs, making the facility a dynamic, fully integrated digital production studio.
New York City
New York, the communications capital of the world, is home to U.S. and international broadcasting, cable, advertising, public relations, publishing, music, and digital media companies. Through internships, seminars, professional meetings, and cultural activities, MMC students meet and work with leaders of these industries.
Our students visit TV and radio stations, theaters, museums, corporate communications centers, newspaper and magazine publishing houses, music producers, and “Silicon Alley” multimedia designers and publishers. These diverse activities offer MMC students many opportunities to learn about current industry trends and jobs directly from the experts. Our strong internship program offers students on-site training to expand their studies with work experiences as they prepare for a career in communications.
