MMC’s “Public Affairs and Political Reporting” Students Visit 19th Precinct
During the class’s visit, Detective Michael Lombardi detailed how the Upper East Side precinct—which spans a wide geographical area and hosts 72 consulates and missions—is covered by the New York City Police Department. The busy precinct, which spans 59th Street to 96th Street and the East River to Central Park, was buzzing with activity as Det. Lombardi took students through a tour of the late-17th century building. During their visit, students were shown the booking room and learned key differences between robbery and grand larceny, viewed a testing of an officer’s taser, and walked through the Muster Room where assignments are distributed to officers.
Detective Lombardi also encouraged students to attend the precinct’s monthly community meetings, held the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.
Many thanks to the 19th Precinct for their hospitality!
