Alumna Paige Gawley ’16 Discusses Work as Staff Writer for Entertainment Tonight

On Tuesday, May 14, Communication and Media Arts alumna Paige Gawley ’16 visited Prof. Tatiana Serafin’s Journalism in the 21st Century to talk about her journalism journey and her work as a Staff Writer at CBS’ Entertainment Tonight.

Gawley, who graduated from MMC’s Communication and Media Arts program with a journalism minor, shared her experience as a intern building her skills at the New York Post and MTV News. These critical opportunities, she explained, soon helped her secure a job as a Staff Writer for Entertainment Tonight

After discussing her work experience, Gawley provided the budding journalists in the room wisdom gleaned throughout her career so far: stay on top of the news, always have a few pitches ready to go, create a website to showcase your work, purchase a digital recorder to avoid technology malfunctions, and become an expert on one or two topics (e.g., Gawley is the go-to reporter for anything Gilmore Girls at ET).

Seeing MMC graduates making their dreams come true is always an inspiration - many thanks to Paige for sharing her story with us!
