CMA Class Visits Huffington Post Headquarters

Professor Tatiana Serafin’s Spring 2019 “Freelance Article Writing” class spent their Wednesday, April 3 class down in Greenwich Village at the Huffington Post headquarters to experience a 21st century digital newsroom.

Hosted by Huffington Post Managing Editor Jennifer Kho, the class was treated to  free coffee while navigating the newsroom and had the opportunity to sit in the room where top HuffPost editors gather each morning to decide which stories to run. The students were also introduced to many reporters hard at work, including Black Voices Community lead editor, Taryn Finley. The class learned about Verizon Media, parent company of Huffington Post, along with other brands and partners like Yahoo! and AOL. Ms. Kho then led a lunchtime round-table discussion with Deputy Editor of Huffpost Personal Emily McCombs and Senior Audience Editor Ron Nurwisah. The three editors shared their journalism backgrounds and industry best practices and took student questions. In the end, the editors encouraged students to pitch the stories that they have been working on in Freelance Writing - a very exciting end to a great excursion.
