MMC Dance Company
MMC Dance Company is the Dance Department’s year-long “Residency,” in which students work closely with some of today’s most important choreographers.
The company has performed at the Danny Kaye Playhouse, the Hostos Center for the Performing Arts; Aaron Davis Hall; 92nd Street Y’s Fridays at Noon; A Day at the Movies, sponsored by the Daily News; Parsons Dance Gala 2008 and at several area high schools.
The company is comprised of twenty to twenty-two students, including apprentices, with freshman to senior standing. Auditions for acceptance, which are competitive in nature, are held each fall and acceptance does not guarantee a future position for each consecutive year. Accepted students are required to commit for one full year and rehearse with the company over the January intercession, at which time the dancers take daily company class and rehearse for the duration of the day.
The MMC Dance Company is extracurricular and does have fees attached. Students may choose to take company for credit and/or for a fee. The Tachick-Hooper scholarship is available to one or two student(s) per year who demonstrates financial need. Applications are accepted within the first week of the fall semester.
