B.A., B.F.A., and B.S. Degree Requirements

Marymount Manhattan College is on a Fall and Spring semester calendar, with mini-sessions in January and the Summer. Courses are usually 3 credits each and full-time status requires a minimum of 12 credits. A minimum of 120 credits is required for graduation.

Major Requirements: 34-60+ Credits

Academic major credit requirements vary, refer to the college catalog for information pertaining to a specific major.

All matriculated students must complete six courses in the advanced interdisciplinary perspectives: one course from each category and a sixth course from any category.

The number of electives will vary according to a student’s major.

Transfer Credit Policy

Marymount Manhattan College accepts credit in transfer for coursework completed at regionally accredited four-year colleges and universities according to the following guidelines:

• A maximum of 60 credits will be awarded for coursework completed with a grade of C or higher that corresponds to the MMC curriculum. The College cannot guarantee that all degree requirements can be met within the remaining 30 credits.
• The College grants credit for those liberal arts courses, taken in A.A., A.S., A.A.S. and A.O.S. degree programs, in which a grade of C or better was achieved, provided that those courses correspond to the MMC curriculum.
• Credit at the 300 level is most likely to be given for technical and specialized courses such as accounting, mathematics and video production.
• The College does not normally award credit for courses taken at an institution for which the student earned a grade of P (Pass).
• The College does not award credit for remedial courses.

The following requirements apply to all transfer students:

• A student must complete 120 credits to graduate, and at least 60 of these credits must be completed at Marymount Manhattan College. These will not include credit for internships, independent study, or prior learning experience.
• All transfer students must complete a minimum of 12 credits in their major at Marymount Manhattan College, regardless of the number of transfer credits awarded within the major.
• All transfer students must complete all Core and distribution requirements as outlined in the General Education Curriculum, even if in doing so the total number of credits exceeds the 120 credits required for a Marymount Manhattan College degree. Transfer credits may be directly applicable to these requirements.
• Students must complete a minimum of 60 credits at MMC to be eligible for academic honors at Commencement.

Non-Collegiate Sponsored Instruction

Students may have completed college-level courses offered by the military, business, industry, government, labor unions or police academies for which no college credit was earned. The College will recognize and grant credit, as appropriate, for courses that have been evaluated by the American Council on Education, the Office of Educational Credit, or the New York State Education Department’s Office on Non-Collegiate Sponsored Instruction. Non-evaluated coursework may also be submitted for review through the Prior Learning process.

Advanced Placement Credit

High school seniors and traditional transfer students that have taken Advanced Placement examinations administered by the College Board, will be awarded credit in accordance with College policy. Six elective credits are granted for the English Language & Composition exam (score 4 or 5). Three credits of electives and three credits of EWL 125 - Literary Imagination - are granted for the English Literature & Composition exam. The student must have the official score sheet sent to MMC. Eligibility will be determined and credit awarded to the student upon enrollment in the College. Such credit will not exceed a maximum of 30 credits and will not count toward the thirty-credit residency requirement. Waiver of requirements in any given subject area will be at the discretion of the Divisional faculty.

International Baccalaureate Credit

Transfer credit is granted for IB examination scores of 4 or higher on the Higher Level Examinations. No credit is granted for the Standard Level Examinations.

Foreign Language Credit

Students who are fluent in a foreign language whose instruction in that language did not take place in a formal classroom setting, may have their skills and fluency in the language evaluated for possible transfer credit by taking either the CLEP exam or the NYU Language Proficiency exam. Official scores earned must be sent to MMC. Students may earn up to 12 credits for language proficiency, but these credits may not be applied at the 300 Level or above.

Life Experience Credit

Through the Prior Learning Assessment Program, you can receive college credit for learning you acquired through your professional career.
