Fine and Performing Arts Admission Requirements
If you’re interested in our Division of Fine and Performing Arts, you’ll need to take a few additional steps in your application. Think of it as your opportunity to showcase and celebrate your talent.
Admission to all programs requires the same first step: starting your application for admission. You will then receive an email to set up your Admissions Portal. This will allow you to complete the required additional forms for your selected program.

Before finishing your application, carefully review the additional requirements for your chosen program. You may receive an academic decision prior to your art portfolio review or audition/interview. If you’re accepted to the College academically, but not accepted to the program, you may still attend MMC and pursue another major.
Department of Art and Art History
Art Majors
An art portfolio is required for students interested in all Art Major concentrations:
- Studio Art (B.A.)
- Photography (B.A.)
- Illustration & Animation (B.A.)
- Graphic Design (B.A.)
The portfolio should include:
- 12-15 images (this should consist of your best work and demonstrate a variety of media skills, or, if you prefer, a cohesive body of work).
- A self-portrait; 1 image in your portfolio must be a self-portrait, in any medium.
- An artist statement is optional (describing your artistic aspirations, goals, style, and the way you approach your artistic work).
Deadline for scholarship/award consideration: February 15 (fall entry) and November 15 (spring entry). We will still accept portfolios after these dates for admission.
If you do not have a portfolio at the time of application, you’ll be considered a conditional Art major and your work will be evaluated after the first semester by your faculty advisor.
Art History Majors
If you would like to be considered for an Art History Award as part of your financial aid package, you may submit a research paper on either a specific artist or artistic movement (5-7 pages). This is not required for admission to the Art History Major.
Deadline for scholarship consideration: February 15 (fall entry) and November 15 (spring entry).
Admission into the Art History Major does not require a portfolio review.
