Admission Requirements by Program
An audition is required
for students interested in the following programs:
Acting (B.F.A.)
Musical Theatre (B.F.A.)
Applicants to the B.F.A. in Musical Theatre are also evaluated for admission to the B.F.A. in Acting program at the time of their audition.
Directing (B.A.)
Applicants to the B.A. Directing program are also required to complete an interview as part of their audition experience.

Scheduling Your Audition or Interview
Once you have submitted your application for admission, you will be given access to the Theatre Audition form located within your Admissions Portal. This form will guide you through the process to schedule your preferred audition/interview date.
Auditions are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to schedule your audition opportunity as soon as you are able. Access to audition/interview scheduling will open on October 8, 2020. This year the Department of Theatre Arts will be hosting two types of audition/interview opportunities for students applying for Fall 2021 entry:

Both audition experiences afford applicants an equal opportunity for admission to the Department of Theatre Arts. We encourage you to select the audition experience that best aligns with your individual needs.
Students who are applying for Spring 2021 entry will be required to complete a DIGITAL Audition/Interview for program consideration.

A note to all applicants:
A $30.00 non-refundable audition fee will be collected online through the Acceptd platform when you register for your live audition experience. If you are auditioning for multiple programs – look for the code on Acceptd to avoid additional fees. No cash, checks, or other monies will be collected directly by Marymount Manhattan College, so please do not send audition payments to MMC.
Applicants who are issued a need-based application fee waiver are also eligible for an audition registration fee waiver.

Applicants to the Directing program will be required to complete an interview as part of the audition during their live audition experience.

Applicants to the Design and Technical Theatre program will be required to prepare the following materials for their live interview.
Resume (include all training, on-stage and backstage experience, academic achievements, and skills).
All applicants are encouraged to include an original observation drawing of any subject in their portfolio.
Applicants applying to the Costume or Scenic Design Concentration(s) must create an original observation drawing.
Portfolio of work (should include a wide range of theatrical and artistic expression. Images should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to communicate ideas and can include theatre renderings, examples of painting or graphics, working drawings, ground plans, lighting plots, props, masks, photography and photographs of realized projects.)
Applicants should submit the images combined into a single presentation, such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, Google Sites or a personal website.
Your portfolio can be up to 20 pages or slides.
Please be prepared to talk about anything that speaks to who you are as a designer and theatre Artist.
Applicants to the Stage and Production Management program will be required to prepare the following materials for their live interview.

Portfolio of work (prompt books, prop tracking, run books, rehearsal reports, any additional design work or production paperwork, etc.).

Regional Auditions
Due to the ongoing pandemic, Theatre Arts at MMC will not be traveling regionally this 2020-2021 audition season. Please refer to the Live Audition and Digital Audition tabs for alternate audition opportunities.
Digital Audition/Interview Requirements
The Digital Audition option allows applicants to submit pre-recorded video requirements via the Admissions Portal for program consideration. This audition opportunity does not consist of a live element, instead all decisions will be made by faculty based on an applicant’s submitted digital materials. For specific requirements please refer to your audition program below. The deadline to submit your Digital Audition is March 5th, 2021.

Scholarships
All prospective students will be considered for a Fine and Performing Arts Merit Scholarships based on their application, audition, or interview. No additional written application is required. To ensure your eligibility, your admissions file to the College must be completed by March 5, 2021.
Re-Audition Process
Students who were denied admission to the Department of Theatre Arts may not audition again. Those who did not apply and/or audition prior to attendance at MMC are eligible to audition during the Spring semester of their first year.
Higher Education Opportunity Program
Prospective Theatre students who are HEOP applicants are encouraged to apply to the HEOP program by December 15 and schedule their Theatre Arts audition/interview as early as possible.
