Through the connections fostered by the MMC and the variety of skill sets I learned within the Arts Management minor, I graduated ready to join the industry and make change. After graduation, I began working as a part-time contractor in development and fundraising for Musical Theatre Factory (MTF). Most recently, I have joined the team of CJAM Consulting LLC, a New York-based firm committed to arts, cultural and social justice institutions that foreground communities of color, honor legacy and contribute to economic vitality. Having the knowledge of all of the elements that go into producing theatre, as well as the elements that shape the very industry itself, has empowered me to create my own work and opportunities as a young Indigenous/Latina director. The connections and networking opportunities from my career in Arts Management have opened doors to advancing my directing career while paying me a living wage.

I started at MMC as a B.F.A. acting major, but soon realized that I was really a director at heart. The flexibility of the Theatre program...allowed me to study directing AND acting, as well as musical theatre and new play development, giving me the tools to begin my directing career right out of school.

2002, Major in Acting and Directing
Former Artistic Director, Astoria Performing Arts Center

  • I came to Marymount by coincidence. But the benefits I have obtained studying business and finance at MMC far exceeded my expectations. The small class size allows professors to pay more individual attention when necessary. Needless to say, the faculty here really strive to provide the best learning experience and networking opportunities.

  • Minoring in neuroscience has given me a better understanding as to why we act/think/behave the way we do. Because of the complex nature of the courses I was anxious to take them but with Professor Hunter’s support and encouragement, I not only enjoyed these classes but excelled at them. My decision to minor in neuroscience after my freshmen year was purely a product of taking a class with Dr. Hunter. She was very passionate about the class discussions and always pushed us to learn more. I felt inspired every time I left the classroom, as my love for neuroscience grew. Professor Hunter was not only an amazing teacher but a mentor too, giving me direction and advice when I needed it. I can confidently say that Professor Hunter’s guidance has not only enabled me to succeed in college but also to pursue a master’s in social work at Hunter College in the fall! I can’t thank her enough!
