EWL Prof. Published in ‘The Academic’s Handbook’
The Academic’s Handbook covers significant challenges in academia such as the competitive job market, teacher workloads, and the corporatization of higher education. Dr. Maczynska is one of fifty contributors from a wide variety of disciplines, offering practical advice for academics whose experience ranges from entry-level to senior leadership.
Dr. Maczynska’s chapter provides an overview of current best practices in small-class teaching. Her method is to integrate progressive pedagogy with current neuroscience research on student learning and to show that the two fields of study are in agreement.
“This chapter grows out of my experience teaching small seminar classes at MMC, especially teaching in the Writing Seminar program,” says Dr. Maczynska. “I think it would be especially useful for junior faculty, but it’s addressed to teachers at all levels. People might recognize some MMC classrooms from the opening description!”
Dr. Maczynska’s field of study is contemporary fiction, with emphasis on Anglophone, urban, and climate fiction. Alongside this new book chapter, she has also published articles on the work of Diran Adebayo, Martin Amis, David Lodge, China Mieville, Ian McEwan, Ben Okri, Will Self, and Zadie Smith.
Congratulations Dr. Maczynska!
