Our Literary Magazine

The mark of a thriving undergraduate creative writing program is in the eminence of its student literary magazine: The Carson Review is Marymount Manhattan College’s creative writing journal, published once a year in the spring.

Read the 2021 edition of The Carson Review

In addition to learning the nuts and bolts of publishing, students in Literary Magazine Publishing (CRW 310) will survey the history of the literary magazine during the 20 th and 21 st centuries and examine a dozen or so current literary arts journals in order to determine the role they play in developing contemporary literature.

The Carson Review invites current MMC students to submit poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, short dramatic works, and cover art. Upon production, the department hosts an annual party and reading to celebrate the newest edition.

The Literary Awards

Each year, the English and World Literatures department recognizes three pieces published in The Carson Review with awards named for distinguished former faculty members including the Joseph P. Clancy Award in Poetry, the Dymphna Leonard Award for Fiction, and the John Costello Award for Creative Nonfiction.
