The Bedford Hills College Program: A Video Overview

In 2017, MMC proudly celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Bedford Hills College Program (BHCP). As the sole degree-granting institution of the BHCP since 1997, MMC has awarded more than 200 academic degrees to the incarcerated women of Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, New York State’s only women’s maximum-security prison.

In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the BHCP, Erin Greenwell, MMC Professor of Communication and Media Arts, produced the video below highlighting testimonials from BHCP staff and faculty, as well as thoughtful and moving commentary from several current BHCP students and alumni.

Taconic Student Granted Clemency

On December 24, 2020, Governor Andrew Cuomo granted clemency to an MMC student completing her studies at the Taconic Correctional Facility, citing a clear demonstration of significant rehabilitation and a commitment to her community. Only 21 incarcerated people were granted clemency in 2020 out of more than 1,000 requests from New York State inmates.
