Dance Faculty Restages May O’Donnell’s “Suspension”

Faculty member Nancy Lushington, formerly a May O’Donnell company member, took part in restaging May O’Donnell’s 1943 “Suspension” on RIOULT Dance NY for their New York City summer season at The Joyce.

Lushington was assisted by Barbara Verlezza and Lynn Frielinghaus, both past adjunct faculty members at MMC.  The company performed at New York City’s Joyce Theater for their 20th anniversary season.  Along with this work, the New York Times reviewed the performance, entitled “Martha, May, & Me.”  The performance included the May O’Donnell work, a Martha Graham piece, and a premiere of Pascal Rioult’s own work.

May O’Donnell was one of the pioneers of modern dance, who also studied with Martha Graham.  Rioult worked with Martha Graham as well, creating a program of pieces that compliment one another, and a web of connections.  The Dance Department is honored to have faculty who are so closely linked to these pioneers of dance.

In addition, RIOULT Dance NY is also hosting a winter intensive for students 18 and older.  The intensive will be held from January 12-17, 2015.  More information can be found here
