Choreography
Students in the Choreography concentration study the art and craft of choreography through theory and practice.
Employing various methodologies, techniques, sources, styles, and points of view, they gain valuable experience in composing dances in both solo and group forms with mentorship support.
In addition, students acquire an understanding of production values and technical support and how these impact the conception, development, and execution of an artistic idea and its realization in either theatrical, video/film creation, and/or site specific ways of performing/presenting dance.
Honing their craft in a diverse array of process-oriented rehearsal environments, participating either as performers or choreographers, students completing the work in this concentration are prepared to develop and pursue their own individual aesthetic interest, objectives and artistic philosophies.
Choreography concentrations as well as all dancers pursuing a dance major also have the opportunity to create a piece to showcase in our Dancer’s at Work Performance each semester. Students are able to begin this process after they completed Composition 1 and submit a Dancer’s at Work submission. Choreography concentrations are required to choreograph at least one semester in order to complete this concentration.
