Body, Science, and Motion
The BS&M concentration creates an exciting opportunity to combine dance with a scientific foundation. This path is a fantastic choice for those who wish to pursue postgraduate programs in allied health, somatic work, or general research.
BS&M Dance majors prepare for careers as practitioners, physical therapists, movement specialists, consultants, clinical educators,
and scholars.
Depending on each student’s goals, the concentration can stand alone or be further enhanced by a variety of minors and/or
double majors.
- The MMC Biology minor, or double major, supports students who are interested in careers in Physical Therapy and/or Biomedical Sciences.
- For those who are interested in Dance Therapy, Embodied Counseling, or Somatic Psychology, a MMC Psychology minor, Art Therapy minor, or Drama Therapy minor can support their path.
- Students who are interested in Cultural, Social, or Generative Somatics, all practices that combine Somatic and Social Justice work, are encouraged to pursue a MMC minor or double major in Politics and Human Rights, Environmental Studies, or Race/Anti-Racism.
Our goal is to support students as they prepare to enter the burgeoning fields of dance medicine and somatic therapies. Internships with noted practitioners and medical institutions in New York City provide our candidates with cutting-edge experience and introduce opportunities in the field.
