Taking classes within the Arts Management minor not only complemented my majors in Art and Art History but also assisted me in discovering how to employ my knowledge and skills while working in various cultural institutions throughout New York. In particular, The History of Museums and Collections offered me a new perspective on the historic and contemporary functions of the art world, which ultimately opened my eyes to the endless possibilities for academic and professional growth within the field. In fact, the invaluable information and experiences I took away from the course gave me the confidence necessary to succeed in my role as an Administrative Intern at the Queens Historical Society during my last semester at MMC.

“I feel lucky to have had the support from the professors at MMC who have continued to serve as mentors post graduation, and my incredible support system of friends who I met during my time at MMC. The Communication and Media Arts department provided me with a foundation of media skills, research experience, and internship opportunities have prepared me for my next step.”

CTEM and its 1-on-1 approach has given me an unmatched creative foundation to develop my skills as an aspiring screenwriter and filmmaker. The faculty is astounding and wants nothing more than to see their students succeed academically, artistically, and professionally. This program has given me insurmountable confidence in my abilities (and an irreplaceable sense of passion) that I will forever take with me into the professional world of entertainment!

  • Adrienne Warren '09

Marymount Manhattan is where I learned to run a light board, help build a set, and assist in hanging lights. As an actor, I believe it is important to have an appreciation for every aspect of what goes into making a complete piece of theatre. Now I joke with the crew of shows I work on and say…’I know how to do that!’

The History and Mission of Arts Institutions was a very insightful course into the world of Theater Management. The professor, who has had several years of experience fundraising for various theatre companies, did an excellent job of teaching the class about the responsibilities, strategies, and obstacles that someone working in Theater Management must confront daily. He did this by providing us with case studies, by inviting guest lecturers from Broadway, and by assigning an end-of-the-year group project that allowed us to create our own nonprofit arts organization. From this course, I gained a comprehensive understanding of both Theatre Management and fundraising for nonprofit arts organizations.

A few 📸 from yesterday’s Orientation Musical, directed and choreographed by Theatre Arts Professor Emily Clark and starring some of our super-talented Theatre students, who very generously gave their time and energy to rehearse and perform. The show, co-written by Clark and her students over the years, explored common fears among first years. Amazing job, everyone. We loved it! #nycstudents #nyccolleges ##theatrestudents

That's Isabella Paragas ’27, a double major in Musical Theatre and Business, and thee Jason Gotay ’11! Besides MMC, they share something in common: @sacmusicals, California's largest nonprofit arts organization. Jason starred in its recent production of "Sunset Boulevard," and Isabella's been working as an education and community engagement assistant for the organization this summer. Among other things, her team helps make theatre more accessible for blind and visually impaired fans, children, and underrepresented groups. We're doubly proud! 💙 #theatre #theatrearts #nyccolleges #theatrestudents
