General Safety Tips

The safety and security of everyone in the MMC community is the College’s top priority and responsibility.  Please keep these safety tips in mind at all times—whether you’re on campus, out and about in New York City, or anywhere else:

  1. Be Alert:  Distracted people are often targets—be aware of your surroundings at all times.

  2. One earbud/AirPod: Consider using just one earbud/AirPod so you can stay alert to your surroundings.

  3. Use a buddy: When you are out, stay with your friends or let someone know where you’re going and when you arrive. Travel with classmates when walking home or taking the train after evening classes or rehearsals.

  4. Report suspicious behavior: Contact Campus Safety to report any suspicious activity. If you are off-campus, call 911.  Immediately give the dispatcher your location and any pertinent information about the situation.

  5. Lock your door: Lock your doors when you leave and when you are home.  Propped doors are an invitation.

  6. ATM Safety: Try to use the ATM during the day.  If you must use the machine at night, go to an indoor or otherwise well-lit machine.

  7. Be UBER safe: When using car shares such as Uber, Lyft, or Via, verify the license plate before entering the vehicle, and ask the driver to verify your name before volunteering it yourself.

  8. It’s more than an ID card: Explore the TouchNet OneCard app on your phone—it has Campus Resources, including the Emergency Action Guide and a direct calling feature to MMC Security.
