Science Senior Spotlight: Martha Madrid ’21

Martha Madrid ’21, a major in Urban and Environmental Sustainability, will pursue a Master’s in Environmental Change and Global Sustainability at the University of Helsinki.
Martha Madrid will graduate in May 2021 with a B.A. in Urban and Environmental Sustainability and minors in Theatre Arts and International Studies. Martha has been accepted into the Environmental Change and Global Sustainability Master’s program at the University of Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland. The program is interdisciplinary, and Martha will pursue concentrations in Indigenous Studies and Environment & Development. She is excited to learn about how community-led and community-sustained action in frontline communities can be implemented to mitigate the effects of climate change on vulnerable populations.

Safety Precautions and Synchronous Learning: MMC Laboratories in the Time of COVID

As MMC worked to reopen its Main Campus for the Fall 2020 semester, the Department of Natural Sciences developed a plan to continue performing in-person laboratory courses while also accommodating remote learners. MMC’s science labs underwent extensive safety reinforcement to allow in-person students to participate in labs with their remote partners learning from home.
