Jazz
The Jazz concentration is structured with theories and practices that widen the scope and understanding of its histories, imperative knowledge that allows dancers to fully embrace the art form.
Regardless of concentration, all students are required to take Embodied Africanist Aesthetics, as these influences are a part of many contemporary concert and commercial dance forms today.
The required tap courses address both specific rhythm (jazz), classical forms from vaudeville to Broadway, and contemporary styles. The dynamic synthesis of the courses in this concentration help to develop a personal voice in Jazz dance and prepares dancers for the profession.
To maximize potential opportunities in the field, candidates within the concentration are encouraged to audition for musical theater productions during the summer months.
