External Research

The Office of Academic Affairs, in conjunction with the Director of Corporate, Foundation, and Faculty Partnerships within Institutional Advancement, assists faculty members in securing external and internal funding for research activities, and helps to develop and implement policies related to research.

Academic Affairs supervises the grants approval and submission process for faculty and staff, coordinates research-related policies (including human subjects and research misconduct), administers the internal Faculty Scholarship Awards, Faculty Leaves and Fellowships, Faculty Development Funds , and Adjunct Faculty Development Funds , as well as Donaldson Awards for students. Academic Affairs also publishes the annual Faculty Achievements in Scholarship and Service compilation .

Faculty should contact the Office of Academic Affairs regarding sources of external funding for research, when they would like to submit a grant proposal, and for general questions about MMC policies related to research matters.

How to Apply for a Grant

Contact the Office of Academic Affairs via email before submitting a letter of inquiry or proposal. You will receive a response within two business days. When you receive the go-ahead, draft your proposal, and get feedback from colleagues. Before submitting your proposal, you must receive College clearance via the External Funding Application ; once submitted, this process normally takes five business days. Should you fail to get clearance, your proposal may need to be withdrawn. Once cleared, submit your proposal to the funding organization. Any information received about the status of a pending proposal should be shared with the Office of Academic Affairs. Faculty members are responsible for the timely submission of any subsequent narrative reports for their projects.
