About

Sharon M. Meagher, Ph.D. served three years as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at MMC.  Meagher stepped down from her position to finish a book manuscript on philosophy of the city and to pursue related teaching opportunities before taking on new leadership responsibilities.  Prior to her arrival at Marymount Manhattan College, Dr. Meagher served as the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Widener University in Chester, PA, where she also served as co-project director of Boundaries and Bridges, a project that utilized the arts and humanities to bring Chester community members together with Widener faculty and students to strengthen the community.  Dr. Meagher also worked as Director of Education at The Union Institute and University’s Office for Social Responsibility in Washington, DC, an academically based public policy center.  She was the founding chair of the Department of Latin American Studies and Women’s Studies at the University of Scranton, where she also taught environmental studies and philosophy.  Dr. Meagher also served as a faculty development consultant on sustainability, civic engagement, and public philosophy. 

A philosopher by training, Dr. Meagher has focused on the philosophy of the city, university social responsibility, and global development and sustainability projects.  She is the author of articles on philosophy of the city, urban geography, feminist theory and practice, and ethics and edited the first reader on philosophy of the city as well as the more recent Routledge Handbook on Philosophy of the Cityhttp://www.sharonmeagher.com
