Let there be lights! Theresa Lang Theatre receives $50k from NYC City Council

Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) has received $50,000 from the New York City Council for the College’s treasured Theresa Lang Theatre. Specifically, these funds will be used to purchase much needed lighting equipment for the theatre.

Currently forced to rent lighting for all College events, the purchase of this new equipment will lift a significant burden from the theatre’s operating budget.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of Speaker Miller and the City Council. We offer a high-quality liberal arts education to a diverse population of students, while at the same time welcoming and serving the broader community of New York City. These funds will allow us to continue that mission.”
- President Judson Shaver
A Community Resource

In addition to being a facility for student work and classes associated with MMC’s Fine and Performing Arts Division curriculum, the 249 seat Theresa Lang Theatre is also an urban showcase for professional theatre, dance, music, seminars and other events. A most valuable educational and community resource, this Off-Broadway venue stages performances and events open to MMC students, friends and all New Yorkers.

These funds come at an important time in MMC’s development. Limited to two classroom and administrative buildings on East 71st and 72nd Streets (where the Theresa Lang Theatre is also located), the College is actively working to upgrade and modernize its existing facilities.
