MMC Hosts Department of Education Professional Development Day

On Thursday, May 23, Marymount Manhattan’s Office of Admission hosted one of the New York City Department of Education’s Professional Development events, bringing counseling and education professionals from across the city to campus for a day of workshops and networking opportunities.

With nearly a decade-long career in New York City recruiting, Marymount Manhattan’s Senior Associate Director of Admission, Estrella Redondo, knows the advantages of hosting the DOE’s development workshops. Working with the DOE’s Director of College Readiness Support, Kristen Harris, Redondo secured MMC as the site of the DOE’s Spring 2019 event, which proved to be an exciting addition to the Admission team’s busy schedule. “It was great to be able to share our gem of a New York City campus with college advisors in our own backyard” she says.

Many of the counselors who attended the day’s program work extensively with first generation students, and it was Redondo’s mission when starting at MMC in October 2018 to host these highly respected educators on campus and to showcase the community at MMC.

Dean Michael Salmon Marymount Manhattan’s Dean of Admission, Christian Andrade, welcomed the room before faculty from the Biology, Communication and Media Arts, and Speech Pathology and Audiology departments presented on their various programs. Later in the afternoon, Dean Michael Salmon discussed the benefits of attending a small liberal arts college on a panel alongside members of the Admissions team and current MMC students. And to conclude the day’s events, MMC President Kerry Walk spoke passionately about Marymount Manhattan students and their work, spirit, and creativity. The group then moved to the 3rd floor Commons for a lively networking and cocktail reception.

Many thanks to the NYC Department of Education for selecting MMC as the latest host for this development series, and to all who attended!
