Alumni News: Bridgid Driscoll ’54 RSHM fighting against human trafficking

Brigid Driscoll ’54 RSHM, Marymount Manhattan H’85, is currently involved with the LifeWay Network, which provides safe housing for women survivors of human trafficking.

Human trafficking is modern day slavery, and involves the recruitment, harboring and transportation of people, exploiting them through the threat or use of force and coercion. It includes sexual exploitation, forced labor, slavery or similar practices. Human trafficking is the 2nd largest international criminal industry, second only to drug trafficking.

LifeWay Network is one of only two organizations in the New York Metro area providing safe housing for women survivors of human trafficking. What sets LifeWay’s Safe Housing Program apart is its community living model. It goes beyond offering shelter by welcoming each woman into a supportive, caring environment that helps them recover from their trauma, regain their sense of self-worth, and enables them to move from isolation towards reclaiming their independence.

Sr. Brigid is also working on LifeWay’s upcoming spring fundraiser:
