If you care about world affairs, you’ll want to check out The Doorstep, an international news podcast co-hosted by MMC Journalism Professor Tatiana Serafin. The show, which is part of Carnegie Council's U.S. Global Engagement Initiative, will celebrate its third anniversary this fall—and just scored a top honor! This month, it won the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Award and Bronze Medallion for the episode "Can Putin be Prosecuted for War Crimes?" (Watch it at the link in our bio.) Congratulations, Professor Serafin! 👏👏 👏 📸 1: Professor Serafin 📸 2-4: Professor Serafin on outings last fall with her Climate Reporting Class and Political Reporting Class and on a class trip to Rolling Stone magazine. #MMCProud

#MMCProud 💙🎓 Last month, MMC held commencement ceremonies for its two college programs at the Bedford Hills and Taconic correctional facilities for women. We congratulate the 27 graduates and welcome them to the College’s alumni community. MMC has been the sole degree-granting institution at Bedford Hills, a maximum-security facility, for over 20 years after fighting in the 90s to continue its college program amid federal funding cuts. In 2019, MMC began partnering with the nonprofit Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison to award degrees at the medium-security Taconic Correctional Facility.  For the full story, go to mmm.edu! #NYCColleges #prisoneducation @hudson_link 📸 1,3,4,5: Bedford Hills 📸 2,6,7,8: Taconic. An alum to watch? Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan ’13, who's currently serving his third term in the Connecticut General Assembly and was appointed Deputy Majority Leader for the 2023-24 legislative session. In May, he became the first recipient of MMC's Geraldine A. Ferraro Award for outstanding achievement in law or public service, which he was awarded at Alumni Reunion. Ferraro ’56 was the first woman nominated by a major party ticket for vice president of the United States; she passed away in 2011. "This award is especially meaningful to me because it comes from a place that was essential in inspiring my commitment to public service," Rep. Allie-Brennan said. "Marymount taught me the importance of being a global citizen, and that we all have a responsibility to each other and our broader community. I will continue to strive every day to live up to this honor." #MMCProud! #NYCCollege #changemakers For a full recap of Reunion and our distinguished alumni award recipients, check out our newsletter MMC Today, which comes out next week!
