Endowed Scholars

ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS                  

The following awards are determined by the Financial Aid Office and granted to those who meet the specific criteria. Students must be enrolled full-time, degree-seeking, and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Note: These awards are not available every academic year as a limited number of students are awarded and receive the endowed scholarship over four years.                  

THE GEORGE I. ALDEN TRUST ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate financial need.

THE J. WILLIAM BORDEAU ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Given to a theatre major. Renewable as long as student maintains full-time  status as a theatre major with a GPA of at least 3.5.

THE GLADYS BROOKS FOUNDATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Given to incoming freshmen who demonstrate superior academic ability and leadership potential as proven by test scores, grades, extracurriculars and recommendations.  Renewable if student maintains GPA of 3.0 or higher and continues to participate in extracurricular committee or club.

THE MARIE BURKE FUND ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE MADELEINE D. BURNS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Female students of a non-traditional age.

THE LOUIS CALDER FOUNDATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students with significant financial need who would otherwise carry a heavy burden of loans with a preference for students residing in the 5 NYC boroughs.                                                     

THE SISTER BARBARA CARVALHO ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE DR. MARVELLE S. COLBY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Business management or accounting major with a preference given to students who are economically disadvantaged.  Student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

THE MARGARET MARY CONNOLLY ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Female graduates of Catholic high schools  pursuing a career in teaching who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.     

THE IRA DECAMP FOUNDATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE WILLIAM L. DOTY ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Full-time students  who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE EDGAR AND LUCKY EISNER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Intended to foster serious study of economic issues by attending an educational institution in Europe or Asia.   Preference given to students who have not traveled to Europe or Asia previously.   Preference that arrangements be made for student to stay in a family home during travel.    Upon returning, students are required to write a paper which describes his/her experiences and insights from study abroad.

THE ANTONETTA FERRARO ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Female students only who demonstrate financial need and whose fathers are deceased and mothers are head of household.  Intended as a 4 year scholarship to a student (renewable).

THE STANLEY FINKEL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

A student majoring in business who demonstrates financial need.

THE FIRST GENERATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who are the first in their family to attend college and demonstrate great financial need.

THE ANNE C. FLANNERY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate financial need.

THE DESIREE L. FRANKLIN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate financial need.  Recipient selected by the President and/or the Finance and Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.

THE SAMUEL FREEMAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate financial need.

THE BERTRAM AND MARIE C. GOODMAN TRUST ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Female students majoring in art who demonstrate financial need.

THE MARY T. GREASON ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students majoring in art and who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.            

THE SR. EDMUND HARVEY FUND ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who are children of an alumni.   Entering freshman must have a minimum of an 80 average OR college students with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Recipients must be full time students who maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.  Re-apply annually for scholarship support

Students from NYC boroughs (with a preference for students from Brooklyn) who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE SHIRLEY HEILIGMAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Returning adult students (with a preference given for female students) who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE MARSHA HAKIM HEWITT ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Minority and/or indigent students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or a GPA improved by .5 or more from previous semester) who are NOT theatre or art majors.

THE JM FOUNDATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students in the Ruth Smadbeck Communications and Learning Center  who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE CHRISTIAN A. JOHNSON ENDEAVOR FOUNDATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE WILLIAM KAVANAGH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Preference for theatre majors who exhibit financial need and maintain a GPA 3.5 or higher.   

THERESA LANG ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Given to one freshman per year who has maintained at least a “B” average the last two years of high school and performed outstanding community service/extracurricular activities.  Renewable sophomore year as long as student maintains a GPA of 3.0.  Renewable junior and senior year as long as the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 plus significant involvement in extracurricular volunteer services to the school or community.

THE FRANCINE A. LEFRAK-FRIEDBERG ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Full-time female students majoring in communication arts or theatre arts who demonstrate great potential and financial need.   Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the four year scholarship.  Students must write an essay.       

THE SR. DYMPHNA LEONARD ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Freshman students of traditional age who require MMC’s small community to thrive academically and demonstrate financial need. Requires two teacher recommendations

THE HELEN TERESA LOWE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Daughters of alumni OR returning women students who demonstrate financial need.

THE JACQUELINE LYNCH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Returning women students (over the age of 25) who demonstrate financial need and  are majoring in the Social Sciences who are enrolled as degree students with at least 6 credits/semester.

THE MARY ELLEN MAHER NIX ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Art students (preference for female students) who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE LOUIS A. MARTARANO ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants whose combined academic histories, personal plans and community service records are deemed to show leadership and concern for others. Preference will be given to students who have been involved in or supported the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. Awards will be provided to students who have a strong desire to complete a degree at MMC. Scholarship monies may be applied to pay for education related expenses such as Marymount Manhattan housing, books, and supplies. Office of Student Affairs conducts the application selection process for a recipient.

Returning adult students or commuter students who demonstrate financial need and academic merit.

Awards for outstanding women writers (or female English majors and/or minors).

Students with an interest in math or science who demonstrate financial need.

Academically superior students without the means to attend college.

International students who demonstrate financial need.

African American female students over 25 years of age who must be enrolled in a degree granting program, min. of 6 credits per semester, and must demonstrate financial need.  Students who wish to apply should submit a brief essay describing their professional goals, and why they believe a college degree will help them meet these goals.

Returning woman student with significant financial need and academic merit.

THE MAHONY PROWSE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Graduates of Catholic high schools in the 5 NYC boroughs who demonstrate financial need.

THE MURIEL D. QUARTARARO ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Preference for commuter students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

THE PETER J. REYES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students majoring in political science or international studies who demonstrate financial need.   Students must submit an essay to be reviewed by a faculty committee for consideration.   Renewable as long as student maintains a GPA of 3.33 and at least part-time status.

THE HELENA RUBINSTEIN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Minority women in the honors program.

THE SR. JUDITH SAVARD ENDOWED TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP

Art or Art History majors. Completion of a minimum of two semesters of full-time study (at least 24 credits) OR (if a transfer student) completed at least one full-time semester at MMC (24 total credits, 12 of which from MMC). Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0. Demonstrates financial need according to criteria established by the Financial Aid Office and the committee. The application consists of the first page of the study abroad application, a statement of purpose, the names and e-mails of two references, one from the Art & Art History Department and the other from another academic department at MMC.

THE MARY ANNE SCHWALBE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Students who are refugees (as demonstrated by U.S. government documentation of asylum status).  In the case that no student fits this criteria in a given year, the scholarship will be awarded to the student(s) who most closely match the criteria, such as international students who demonstrate great financial need.

THE SR. REGINA SHELLY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

A young woman, enrolled full-time at MMC, demonstrating financial need, who has graduated from a Catholic High School in Brooklyn.

THE WILLIAM AND CAROL SIMON ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Funds a student or students who have started college but would be unable to finish without financial assistance and who demonstrate academic merit.

THE NINA SPIEGELMAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Designated solely for female students over the age of 25 in a degree-granting program, who enroll for a minimum of 6 credits per semester, and who demonstrate financial need.  Applicants are required to write a brief essay describing their professional goals, and why they believe a college degree will help them meet these goals.

Preference for students who transfer to Marymount Manhattan College from a metropolitan New York City area community college and demonstrate financial need and academic merit.

THE STEPHANIE E. KUPFERMAN JUVENILE JUSTICE AWARD ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Continuing MMC students majoring in political science, with an emphasis in pre-law and /or criminal justice who must demonstrate financial need. Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher within the major.                                                                     

THE RITA RABER AWARD ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Given out annually by the Psychology Department to honor returning students.
