MMC students are introduced to career resources in first-year NYC seminars by Career Quest counselors.
1. Students sign up for the Career Quest program and are assigned to a career counselor. During the intake session students create a plan for the career development process with particular emphasis on career direction and goals for each semester. Interested students can join Career Quest by clicking here.
A. Career and personality assessments are administered in conjunction with Advisement.
B. Explore choice of major: “I Start Strong” College Profile assessments and “Majors Fairs”.
C. Students are encouraged to volunteer and/or be involved in student clubs.
D. Peer career counselors talk about their career search experiences and assist students in identifying their abilities and interests.2. Students create first resume and cover letter.
3. Career Quest facilitates two Career and Internship Fairs during the academic year and opportunities to plan for summer jobs, volunteer positions and internships. Students are assessed by Career Quest counselors for key first-year competencies (ability to interview, write resume, compose cover letter) and research skills that will help in successfully acquiring the summer job/internship/volunteer experience.
4. Career Quest counselors familiarize students with the MMC Career Connection job database.

1. Seek out professional internships and learning experiences (shadowing and mentoring) that help students to explore new career areas and decide if certain areas are no longer relevant. Students meet with their career counselors on a pre-arranged schedule to determine how career exploration is progressing.
2. Students are assigned to a “Career Cohort.” This is a group of students whose career interests may converge and have had working experiences that they share in scheduled workshops.
3. Students participate in a series of scheduled “Career Enhancement” workshops that support the larger Career Fairs. Workshops include visits by industry leaders and on-site visits to companies and organizations.
4. Develop and enhance job search skills through mock interview sessions with an assigned Career Quest counselor.
5. Students are encouraged to begin thinking about a professional plan or “Career Design.” This can be a compilation of professional experiences to date and an intentional plan for moving forward. Workshops are facilitated by career counselors.

1. Career Quest begins to integrate post-baccalaureate opportunities into regular career counseling sessions.
2. Students attend information sessions with Faculty and Career Quest counselors regarding graduate and professional school, fellowships, research opportunities and post-baccalaureate internships. Develop and cultivate relationships with Faculty advisors and counselors.
3. Begin preparation for GRE, LSAT, GMAT, MCAT tests, if appropriate.
4. Career Quest workshops focus on internships/jobs between junior and senior years as these summer and semester experiences may serve as test cases for full-time employment.
5. Interns meet with career counselors and peer counselors to talk about past and upcoming career experiences as they move forward with their “Career Cohort” or group of students who are interested in similar careers.
6. Internship site visits are conducted by Career Quest counselors and students are encouraged to evaluate their experiences. Intern evaluations from both employers and students are collected and narrative comments compiled for student use. Employer evaluations are forwarded to faculty for use in grading of the academic credit internship.
7. Students learn about “transferable skills” through workshops and group talks.
8. Students meet with a Career Quest Counselor to refine and add to resume and to develop an “Individualized Career Search Plan” for the Fourth Year.

1. Students actively seek out post-graduation employment and continue to develop networks with the assistance of Career Quest counselors.
2. Students have the opportunity to participate in a multi-week program for seniors that prepares them for the job application process, including resume critiques, cover letters reviews, networking, and interviewing tips. Students participate fully in the week of Career Quest programming anchored by the Fall Career Fair.
3. Students are invited to join alumni and employers for a day-long series of discussions and networking events focusing on the “Transition from College to Career”. Following a Keynote Speaker, alumni will talk about how MMC prepared them for a successful career. Employers address industry trends in a series of round table discussions.
4. Workshops include: Managing Your Digital Profile, Getting LinkedIn, Negotiating Salary, Networking, Interviewing and Transferable Skills.
5. Students opt to attend targeted Employer Symposiums on popular topics in majors such as Business Communications, Arts Management, Health Professions, Digital Media and Public Relations. These Symposiums are co-sponsored by Faculty, Alumni and Career Quest.
