Board of Trustees Elects New Chairperson and New Member

On May 6, 2014, at its Annual Meeting, the Marymount Manhattan College Board of Trustees unanimously approved Hope Knight ‘85 as its newest chairperson, and John H. Hunt as its newest member. Ms. Knight is the second Alumnae in the College’s history to hold this position on the Board.

“While we have accomplished so much at Marymount Manhattan, there is still a great amount of work to be done, and I am pleased to accept the challenge,” Ms. Knight said.

Ms. Knight ‘85 has longstanding ties to Marymount Manhattan College. She received her BA in Business Management from MMC in 1985, and has twice been an Adjunct Lecturer in Corporate Finance courses. She has been a board member since 2006 and most recently served as Vice Chair and Chair Designate since 2011. Since joining the Board Ms. Knight has served on numerous committees through which she has provided insight and expertise to the College and Board.  

Ms. Knight ’85 is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone (UMEZ), a not-for-profit whose mission is to revitalize Upper Manhattan’s economy. Before moving to UMEZ, she was Vice President of the Institutional Equities Division at Morgan Stanley, working from its Tokyo office from 1997 to 2000. She has worked in the Commissioner’s Office of the Department of General Services as Director, Planning and Analysis for the City of New York.

Ms. Knight ’85 received her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is a Trustee of the North Country School.

The Board also elected John H. Hunt as the newest trustee. Throughout his extensive career in banking and finance, Mr. Hunt has been active in asset management activities, including equity and debt securities, options, private equity, and real estate. He is currently the Principal and Founder of JHH Investment Advisors and an Advisory Director of GP Investments, a Brazilian private equity and alternative investments firm. Prior to that, Mr. Hunt served as CEO of J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s Institutional business in the Americas from 2007 to 2010, where he managed the institutional investment management strategy, investment product sales and marketing, consultant relations, and client service.

Previously, he served as Managing Director of Financial Institutions Investing Banking for Barclays Capital, and also worked for Lehman Brothers, Inc. and Goldman Sachs & Co. where he advised banks and insurance companies on investment portfolio and balance sheet management strategies.

Mr. Hunt received his BA from Vanderbilt University and his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Math Department Holds The Eleventh Annual Pi-Day Contest

Every year, the Mathematics department holds a College-wide π-Day contest. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit an original sentence, paragraph, poem, or short story that uses the digits of π in order (π ≈ 3.1415926..).
