Margaret Roleke, Thank You, cyanotype
Photo credit: SaveArtSpace.orgOne particularly striking piece by Roleke is a billboard on exhibit in Detroit, Michigan through the organization SaveArtSpace.org. The billboard image is a cyanotype, created through a photographic process using two chemicals: ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide, and sunlight. Roleke is constantly experimenting with and combining new materials in her practice.

Recent Exhibitions

• Creative Arts Workshop’s “Made Visible” Series: Roleke’s work was held on display in CAW’s gallery windows until October 25. She recently interviewed with New Haven Independent and spoke about the inspiration behind her art.
• Art Off-Screen: Curated by Eileen Jeng Lynch, Roleke’s Clean Version 2 cyanotype was on display up through October 10.

Margaret Roleke ’84Current Exhibitions

• NOW: Curated and featuring an original piece by Roleke, the NOW exhibit reflects on the turbulence and caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism in the United States. The exhibit held a virtual showing on October 1 and is on display at the Ely Center of Contemporary Art until November 15.
• ODETTA’s Digital Fall 2020 Exhibition: Pandemic Proof: As part of the SHIM Art Network, Roleke’s Caution piece will be on display digitally until December 10.
• Declaration of Sentiments: A Visual Celebration of 100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote in the U.S.A: Roleke’s art will be on display at The Institute Library in New Haven, CT until December 15.
• A Pop-Up Art Exhibit: 2020 People, Politics, Planet: As a part of an exhibit that seeks to view 2020 through the eyes of artists, Roleke’s Danger/Peligro cyanotype will be on display from October 3–November 30.
• City-Wide Open Studios: Roleke is participating in ArtSpace New Haven’s online exhibition, open from October 1–30.
• USPS Art Project: Roleke’s work will be on display at Sunset Art Studios in Dallas, Texas, from October 1–31.
