MMC’s Fourth Annual Golf Tournament Raises Nearly $125,000

(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan’s Fourth Annual Golf Tournament at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York was a great success. The event, which took place on August 6th, 2007, raised about $125,000 for the College. Proceeds will help MMC continue fulfill its mission of providing a high quality liberal arts education to a diverse body of students.

The event commenced with registration, breakfast and a shotgun start. About 100 participants golfed on the East and West Courses at Winged Foot, followed by a luncheon and reception and presentations of raffle prizes and awards for the best team, the best individual golfer, the longest drive, and closest to the pin for male and female golfers on the East and West Courses.

Richard Edlin, a shareholder with the New York office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, was the honoree for the event as well as the recipient of the 2007 Leadership Award. He is an accomplished litigator who has successfully handled dozens of trials and arbitrations around the country. His recent accomplishments include a 9-0 victory in the United States Supreme Court, and testifying before the United States Congress on behalf of one of his clients. He appears frequently on CNN, ABC and CBS television to speak about a variety of legal matters and on behalf of his clients, and has been quoted by publications including The New York TimesThe Los Angeles TimesThe Washington PostThe Associated Press and The Daily Telegraph in London.

In addition to leading a successful career, Edlin also devotes time to his community. He serves on the board of Hackensack University Medical Center, New Jersey Seeds and Youth Education through Sports. He is also a lecturer for the New York City High School for Leadership and Public Service’s program on sexual harassment.

Math Department Holds The Eleventh Annual Pi-Day Contest

Every year, the Mathematics department holds a College-wide π-Day contest. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit an original sentence, paragraph, poem, or short story that uses the digits of π in order (π ≈ 3.1415926..).
