Teacher Education Program Receives Accreditation

(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan College’s Teacher Education Department earned accreditation for all of its programs at a meeting of the Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching, a subcommittee of the New York State Board of Regents.

The process of preparing for and undergoing this critical evaluation took two years to complete and drew upon the talents and resources of all members of the MMC community. The State’s decision to accredit follows a comprehensive site visit by a State-selected team of examiners in the fall of 2006.

For over 40 years, Marymount Manhattan graduates have been employed as elementary, secondary, and special education teachers in public, private and parochial schools in New York City, New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut and other locales. The Department specializes in inclusive education – preparing graduates to teach classes where pupils with disabilities are included with non-disabled pupils.
