MMC Student Lynze Schiller Gives Helping Hand to Bronx Church Renovation Project

(New York, NY) Through her involvement with the leadership program NYC LP56, MMC student Lynze Schiller helped transform a storage room into a multi-use safe haven for community members in the Bronx.

Kingsbridge’s The Church of the Mediator introduced its new “Empowerment Room” to the community on Feb. 10 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Schiller was one of 25 volunteers who spent a week transforming church space into an Empowerment Room and a library, which include five computer terminals with Broadband Internet Access, a library of more than 300 books, a quiet space dedicated to study and reflection, and a mural.

“When the project was complete, I had an indescribably beautiful feeling,” says Schiller, a sophomore Dance major. “Being in service and contribution, working toward a vision of something bigger than myself that will make a difference in someone else’s life and open immeasurable possibilities for them created an overwhelming feeling of gratitude that I can not properly put into words.”

The Empowerment Room is a safe space which is open to all members of the community. Reverend Diego A. Delgado-Miller and The Church of the Mediator have been champions of causes in the community from domestic violence protection to HIV prevention to ending hunger for years and see the Empowerment Room as a tool for furthering all of those causes.

Schiller and fellow team members completed the empowerment room as a Legacy Project for NYC LP56. The mission of NYC LP56 is to promote a world of love, unity and freedom by being a source of power and abundance. The Leadership Program is the third part of training through a coaching company called Personal Dynamics, a New York based organization that offers life-changing workshops, seminars and programs promoting self reflection, motivation, inspiration and growth.
