MMC Celebrates “Valiant Womxn of the Vote” for March History Month

Organized by the Office of Student Development and Activities, the 2020 Womxn’s History month events at MMC have been designed to increase the visibility of all womxn*, both on campus and within our communities.

A number of campus organizations, including Student Activities Advisory Board (SAAB), Cultural Peer Mentors, Bedford Hills College Program, and others, have assisted in planning over a half dozen events to honor and celebrate womxn’s herstory around the world.

This year is the centennial of the 19th Amendment and MMC honors those who fought in the original suffrage movement, as well as those continuing to fight for equal voting rights for all.

These events are open to the entire campus community and we hope to see many of you there! To RSVP and learn more about these events, please visit the links below.

The month’s closing event, the 2nd annual Womxn Empowerment Luncheon, will include a panel, featuring Lauren Brown, Ph.D., Associate Professor of History, Alexis Garcia ’18, and Dejah Foxx, and will be moderated by Ta’Lor Mosley ’21.

Throughout the month, MMC’s on-campus arts inclusivity organization, Strong Fxmale Lead, will be supporting Food Bank for NYC’s annual Woman to Woman campaign, which works to raise awareness, financial support, and basic necessities to all women and girls in New York City. MMC community members can drop off any donations on Monday, March 23 from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Commons table. From Tuesday, March 24 through Friday, March 31, you can drop off donations in the SOS (Carson Hall 302). Stay tuned for a volunteer opportunity to deliver and distribute collected products!

*We use the alternative spelling of womxn to be more inclusive of non-binary gender expressions and international feminism.
