Gala Benefit Raises More than $25,000 for MMC’s Dance Department

(New York, NY) On May 2, 2008 New York City’s community and dance supporters gathered for the 17th Annual Champagne Gala Benefit at Marymount Manhattan College. The event raised a total of $25,325, which supports Marymount Manhattan’s Dance Department, its programs, choreographers and costumes and sets. The benefit honored Robert Swinston, assistant to Merce Cunningham, who served as the 2008 Honorary Chair for the benefit performance and reception.

The gala hosted by MMC President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D., The Board of Trustees, and the MMC Dance Department Advisory Board, showcased an array of performances by Marymount Manhattan dance students featuring the choreography from some of New York City’s finest. The performance program included, “Lava Field” by Molissa Fenley; “Fielding Sixes” by Merce Cunningham; “A Work in Progress” by David Parsons; “…At First Sight,” by Edwaard Liang; and “Lareigne” by Stephen Petronio.

Math Department Holds The Eleventh Annual Pi-Day Contest

Every year, the Mathematics department holds a College-wide π-Day contest. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit an original sentence, paragraph, poem, or short story that uses the digits of π in order (π ≈ 3.1415926..).
