SYNAPSES Opens in MMC’s Hewitt Gallery of Art

Curated by MMC alum Kristen Haskell ’05, SYNAPSES
explores the deep interconnectivity between artists belonging to a small Brooklyn art collective, The Gowanus Swim Society.

Nine artists from the Society contributed work to the show: Jessica Dalrymple, John Fisk, Natalie FiskAbigail GroffKristen HaskellMelissa JohnsonSuzy KopfMary Negro, and Christopher Dillen Phelps. Each member explores multiple forms of media and themes, including site specific installation, drawing, design, and video art.

Curator Kristen Haskell, who graduated from MMC in 2005 with a concentration in Graphic Design, co-founded the GSS in 2014. The collective, through regular meetings and numerous exhibits, provides a forum for sharing information and artist resources. “Synapses has marked a career milestone for me and has allowed for further exploration into materials and methods in my artistic practice,” explains Haskell. “MMC will always be my first home as I continue this journey of artistic discovery.”

Experience SYNAPSES in the Hewitt Gallery of Art through October 30.
