Biology Professor Attends United Nations General Assembly Panel on Biodiversity

Matt Lundquist, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Biology, was invited to attend a special panel about The Lion’s Share, the U.N. Development Programme’s animal conservation and biodiversity initiative.

The Lion’s Share, launched in 2018 by FINCH and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is an initiative that encourages brands and corporations that use images of animals in their marketing to donate part of their advertising budget to protecting animal habitats in the wild and the world’s biodiversity.

The panel, titled The Lion’s Share at UNGA 74: Harnessing Advertising for Good, highlighted the ways in which corporations can take action and be part of the solution in the face of a mass extinction crisis. Speakers included UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, noted marine conservationist Dr. Sylvia Earle, and Actor and UNDP’s Goodwill Ambassador Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
