Business Students Recognized at Senior Award Ceremony

On Sunday, May 5th, Marymount recognized seniors for their service, leadership, and perseverance at the Senior Award Ceremony. In this special ocassion, two of our Business graduates were honored: Jennifer Acevedo and Brenelle Braganza. 

Jennifer Acevedo, a B.A. in Leadership major and Psychology minor, was bestowed with The Raymunde McKay Award. This award is given to a “senior who has made an outstanding contribution towards meeting the problems and demands of our society through service at MMC and in the larger community.” 

Jennifer’s contributions to the MMC community are numerous and include serving as Senior Marshall 2018-19, Students Activities Advisory Board Member 2018-19, HEOP Peer Mentor 2016-18, Marymount Community Outreach Treasurer 2016-18, Alternative Spring Break Team Leader 2018, Sole Steppers Vice President (2016 – 2019), Wellness Educator for Advocates for Wellness Education (2016) and participant in the Emerging Leaders Program (2016).

In addition to these elected and appointed positions, Jennifer has worked with the student and community engagement staff at MMC to design recruitment strategies to increase the organization’s membership and volunteers and promote events to increase awareness and membership, resulting in overall growth in community participation.

Jennifer is also the 2017 recipient of the Watson Fellowship, “a selective three-year fellowship that develops the potential of promising students to become effective and humane leaders”. Following her graduation from MMC, Jennifer will be headed to Australia to complete another internship for her Watson fellowship.

Beyond MMC, Jennifer has engaged with various organizations that demonstrate her dedication to the community. In summer 2016, Jennifer worked at The Office of Manhattan Borough President, managing and coordinating a variety of issues ranging from Pre-K enrollment, domestic violence, child abuse, and eviction. In summer 2017, Jennifer interned at Echoing Green, NYC, a program that aims to support emerging social entrepreneurs as they propose efficient solutions to society’s problems. Jennifer developed the website and communication plan for Echoing Green and gathered and analyzed project data.

Brenelle Braganza, a triple major in Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Finance and a double minor in Accounting and Economics, was the recipient of the Alumni Association Medal, awarded to “a senior who has shown outstanding leadership and has made the most noteworthy contribution to Marymount.” 

Endowed with a cheerful and energetic personality, Brenelle’s list of contributions is diverse; it includes service in the student government organization at MMC since 2016, when she started out as the international student senator. Since then, Brenelle immersed herself in student activities, encompassing service on the student advisory board, the diversity and inclusivity committee and more recently as President of the SGA.

In addition to these elected positions, Brenelle served as cultural peer mentor to international students, peer leader for the NYC seminar, officer-bearer of the Fashion Marketing Student Association (FMSA), co-chair of MMC’s Got Talent, and volunteer for Marymount Muscle.

The Business Division is extremely proud of its students’ achievements. Congratulations Jennifer and Brenelle!  Very well deserved!
