CSD Students Present at the NYSSLHA Annual Convention in Albany

Krimgold and Gomez presented a poster entitled, “Language Technology: Evidence for Linguistic Training of Speech-Language Clinicians.” Their research, conducted alongside Sue Behrens, Ph.D., Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders, explores the ways in which over-reliance on grammar and spell check technology leads to a loss of sensitivity to multilingual and multicultural aspects of language.

They said, “We present data that questions the validity of this technology in the speech-language pathology world, and we illustrated how, as student clinicians, we have benefited from developing our own language awareness through the study of linguistics.”
