MMC Celebrates Asian Pacific Islander Desi Associated (APIDA) Heritage Month

In anticipation of APIDA Heritage Month 2019, MMC’s Student Development and Activities Office has coordinated several campus-wide events to honor and celebrate Asian Pacific Islander Desi Associated* (APIDA) cultures, histories, and identities.

APIDA officially stands for Asian Pacific Islander Desi American, but MMC substitutes American with Associated to include both domestic and international students. These events are sponsored and hosted by the Office of Student Development and Activities, Student Activities Advisory Board, Campus Activities Board, Cultural Peer Mentors, and Chartwells. RSVP at the links below!

This year’s keynote event is a workshop on APIDA identity and success in the workplace with educator Isabella Villacampa on Tuesday, May 7. Villacampa serves as the Associate Director for Community Engagement at New York University’s Center for Student Life. She has presented on topics including Social Justice & Identity, Social Media, and Generational Differences. She was featured in a piece about Filipino-American identity in the Huffington Post, and in 2016 was invited to the Filipino American History Month celebration at the White House.
