Junior Madison Weisend Presents Research on Water Scarcity in Rural India

On Friday, April 5, junior Madison Weisend presented a poster at the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER) conference at the New School in Greenwich Village. The theme of the conference was “STEM, Humanities & Social Justice: Innovations in Education.”

Madison’s poster, “Exploring water scarcity through the dynamics of social power: the case of the Thar Desert,” explored the experience of water scarcity at the community and family levels in rural India. Madison is a junior with a double major in Environmental Studies and Politics & Human Rights. She conducted the research in India during her David L. Boren Scholarship work in 2018. The poster was put together with the guidance of Biology professor Dr. Matt Lundquist. 

Madison received a lot of positive feedback on her work and even got invited to speak to a class on writing about global water issues by a professor at New School. Congratulations to Madison for all her hard work!
