Griffin United Wins Third Consecutive New York Coed Soccer League Championship

New York, NY – Griffin United, MMC’s soccer team, won its third consecutive New York Coed Soccer League championship on Friday, December 11 at the Auxiliary Gymnasium at Baruch College. Griffin United beat Team FA by the score of 2-1 to win the title. 

The team compiled a record of eight wins and one loss during the regular season, which began in early October and continued through December 4, to qualify for the two-round playoffs. Griffin United defeated Free Agents in the first round of the playoffs to advance to the championship game. 

Griffin United is MMC’s first-ever sports team and three-time league champion (winning also in the fall and spring of the 2008-2009 academic year). In 2009, Griffin United advanced from club status and joined the IM Sports and Recreation program in the Office of Student Development and Activities. 

Coached by Alejandro Fernandez ’10, the team roster includes: Cesar Jaitman-Labaton ’12 (Goalkeeper), Colin Mehigan ’12 (Captain), Joshua Hashmi ’12 (Co-Captain), Shane Mehigan ’11, Daniel Ledford ’12, Laura Nitz ’13, Sarah Langan ’10, Beck Hesselbach ’11, Victoria Preston ’10, Omar Bahar ’13 and Bonnie Baxter ’13.

Math Department Holds The Eleventh Annual Pi-Day Contest

Every year, the Mathematics department holds a College-wide π-Day contest. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit an original sentence, paragraph, poem, or short story that uses the digits of π in order (π ≈ 3.1415926..).
