In Memoriam: Msgr. Thomas P. Leonard

The Marymount Manhattan College community mourns the loss of Msgr. Thomas P. Leonard, 90, a dynamic priest whose sister was a beloved faculty member at MMC.

Father Leonard died on October 20 in Manhattan. He is well-known for his efforts to transform a vacant convent into the Incarnation Children’s Center, a residence in Washington Heights to care for HIV-positive infants.

He developed a relationship with Marymount Manhattan College through his sister, Sister Dymphna Leonard, who served the College for almost forty years, until her death in 1992, as a professor of English, as the Chair of the Communication Arts department and as the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Father Leonard frequently celebrated mass at the College’s annual Alumni Reunion weekend and is fondly remembered by our alumni.

A New York Times obituary is available here.
