Biology Student Clubs Awarded Grant for Breast Cancer Outreach

Two Biology student clubs (the Science Society and the Pre-Med Club) were awarded a $500 grant to conduct public outreach activities this term.

The Science Society and the Pre-Med Club have earned a competitive ASBMB Student Chapter Outreach Grant, which helps recipients increase their involvement in science outreach activities in their local community. The funds will be used during the upcoming breast cancer awareness event, “I Heart Boobies,” on October 10, 2018. The students will host a table where they will provide information to the MMC community on breast cancer awareness. Activities will include educating students, staff, and faculty on breast self-examination using a scientific breast model. The club members will also recruit participants for the annual Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk in Central Park on October 14.

Congratulations to our student club members–well done!

All are welcome to stop by our table on October 10!

Safety Precautions and Synchronous Learning: MMC Laboratories in the Time of COVID

As MMC worked to reopen its Main Campus for the Fall 2020 semester, the Department of Natural Sciences developed a plan to continue performing in-person laboratory courses while also accommodating remote learners. MMC’s science labs underwent extensive safety reinforcement to allow in-person students to participate in labs with their remote partners learning from home.
