Alumna Gloria Bohan ’63, H’03 Receives Prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award

ASTA promotes excellence within the travel industry and its ASTA awards program was designed to recognize those individuals and organizations who make lasting contributions to the industry. Bohan, founder and CEO of Omega World Travel, received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award last week at ASTA’s Global Convention in Washington, D.C. 

She founded Omega World Travel in 1972 and since that time has transformed her one-person office into the largest travel agency founded, operated, and majority-owned by a woman. Additionally, in 1998, she founded Cruise.com, now one of the leading online cruise retailers.

Bohan has been recognized many times over for her numerous impressive business achievements. Among her many accolades are: her recognition by Tour and Travel News as “One of the 25 Most Influential Leaders in the Travel Industry,” being named one of the Top 500 Women in the United States by Working Woman Magazine, and her inclusion in the Enterprising Women’s “Hall of Fame.”

Bohan served as a Trustee of Marymount Manhattan College from 2003-2013. In 2003, she received an honorary degree from MMC for her vision of service to the public, skills in organizing a successful enterprise, commitment to the advancement of women, and fidelity to the values and ideals of liberal education.

“An entrepreneur par excellence, Gloria Bohan has continually been able to innovate, often through new web-based technology whose development she has driven,” said President Kerry Walk. “It’s no wonder that she is a legend in the travel industry and beyond. We are proud to celebrate the achievements of this extraordinarily accomplished Marymount Manhattan alumna.”
