MMC Dance Spring Repertoire Features Premiere Works by Robert Battle, Benoit-Swan Pouffer and Kate Weare

New York, NY - Marymount Manhattan’s Dance Department presents its Spring Repertoire featuring dance works by a diverse group of leading choreographers. In keeping with the philosophy of the department, this season’s performances offer something for everyone.

The Spring Repertoire will be presented through Saturday, May 8, in the College’s Theresa Lang Theatre, located at 221 E. 71st Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Performance times are: Thursday, May 6 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m. (matinee) and 8 p.m.

This season’s performance features the world premiere of Channels by Robert Battle, artistic director of Battleworks Dance Company. Additional premiere pieces include for all of us by Benoit-Swan Pouffer, artistic director of Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet andPrimavera by Kate Weare, artistic director of the Kate Weare Company.

The program will also feature excerpts of Erick Hawkins’, New Moon and Lar Lubovitch’s signature work Concerto Six Twenty-Two

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for students (with proper I.D.) and senior citizens. MMC community free with valid I.D. 

MMC Dance Gala Honors Joan Finkelstein 

The MMC Dance Gala 2010 is scheduled on May 7 at 7:30 p.m in the Theresa Lang Theatre, followed by a special champagne reception in the Great Hall. This year’s Honorary Chair is Joan Finkelstein, director of dance programs for the New York City Department of Education, which supports access to quality dance education in a citywide system of 1,600 schools.

Math Department Holds The Eleventh Annual Pi-Day Contest

Every year, the Mathematics department holds a College-wide π-Day contest. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit an original sentence, paragraph, poem, or short story that uses the digits of π in order (π ≈ 3.1415926..).
